A quick life update + lessons learned in 2024
Happy new year! I’m so glad you’re here! I hope you had a beautiful and wholesome 2024! I don’t know about you but 2024 was such an eventful year that took a turn of events that sadly affected me more in a negative way than I would have hoped for, from losing my dad and learning to live in grief and loss to feeling creatively stuck and not being able to show up for myself. Nevertheless, God remained good and even though it was such a hard and painful year, I learned a lot and got to rest and dwell in the midst of all the hurt and find joy in sorrow. Here is a few things I learned from a painful 2024 that is helping me in this new year 2025.
1. “grief is just love with no where to go”
Losing anyone is such a painful thing to go through and if your year consisted of losing someone as well, I am so sorry for your loss and that you had to go through that. I still have no words for myself and how to articulate the feeling the hurt and sense of loss, understanding, explantation, etc. but I will share what has helped me through it – putting my faith in something bigger, family days, creating and seeking special heirlooms, self care days, practicing mindfulness such as journaling, thought dumping and prayers, worship, gym sessions and daily 2 mile walks. These are some things that has worked for me in the meanwhile.
2. sometimes rest is productive too
This year I was forced to rest and just take the time to heal and focus on family. Taking the necessary step back has allowed me to regain strength, inspiration and come back more motivated and ready to tackle the new year and try again to meet goals and be a better version for myself and my loved ones.
3. invest in your wellbeing
As simple as a going out for a walk, signing yourself up for a fitness class, taking a self-care day to do all your favorite things, going on a trip, carving out time to read or journal, investing in good skincare, getting your hair done or seeing your favorite people, etc.
4. prioritize relationships
Make time for the people that you love. Spend quality 1 on 1 time with the people that fill up your cup and mean the world to you. You never know when you won’t have them anymore.
5. create an organized home
Invest time in decluttering your home and donating, throwing away what doesn’t belong in your home. Invest in organization systems and give everything in your house a designated place. It makes a world of a difference.
6. if you look good you feel good
This has been a quote that I have been living off by to help me get my days started and help me feel more productive and better about myself. Sometimes as stay at home moms or work from home individuals we tend to just stay in pajamas because it’s more convenient. But i’ve noticed that the days that I do my hair, or make up or simply get out of pajamas, I feel better, I radiate better energy and I have a better productive day.
7. the people you surround yourself with matters
“As iron sharpens iron, so one sharpens the other.” Proverbs 27:17 – meaning that who you surround yourself matters. Surround yourself with other people who are likeminded, who believe in the things you believe, people who uplift you, who care about you and pour into you. Be that for them too.
8. social media is not what it all seems to be
As a content creator, I have learned that social media is not real. As I make and direct my content, I get to choose what I show, what angles, what shots, what PROPS and I am able to produce little bits of cute shots into something. It’s *creating* content.
9. live in the moment
Living in the moment with your loved ones soaking it all in. Savor, each sec and dwell in their smile, touch, smell and laugh. It’s so important for them as it is to you. This is something you will never regret. Work, the piles of laundry, distractions – everything else will still be there. Take the days off, take the trips, turn your phone off and be in the moment. Treasure it.
10. pictures ARE important
When all you have left is pictures and videos to go back to, it is important. So take all the pictures, capture all the beautiful faces and moments. I grew a love for daily vlogs and romanticizing my days for this reason. Seeing all of my captured shots put together in a beautiful montage type of way made me see how beautiful life is. You don’t necessarily have to post everything, how lovely is it to archive these special videos for our families.
Thank you 2024 for the lessons…
2025, please be good to us…
